A 27-year-old man has been remanded in Ilesa prison by an Osogbo magistrate’s court for allegedly raping a two-year-old girl.
Ibrahim was alleged to have raped the girl in his room at his house in Osun state after luring the girl to his room at about 1.00pm when he realized her parents had left the house for their shops.
The Police prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, an inspector, told the court that the accused unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the girl.
He explained that the accused person had through his action committed rape, an offence which he said was contrary to Sections 218 and 222 of the criminal code, cap 34 vol 11, laws of Osun state, Nigeria 2003 and 2007 respectively.
The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of rape and assault levelled against him.
Mr. Amaechi Ngwu, counsel to the accused person prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, stressing that the accused person should be presumed innocent until the contrary is proved.
The Magistrate Olusola Aluko however turned down the request of the counsel to the accused person and ordered he be remanded in prison pending a formal application by his counsel.
He adjourned the case till March 3, 2014 for mention.
